Why Our Puppy Families Remain Part of Greavesamor

Watching one of our puppies leave for their new home is always a mixture of emotions. It’s exciting, because it’s the beginning of a whole new chapter for them, but after raising them from birth and getting to know every little part of their personality, saying goodbye is never quite as simple as handing over a puppy and waving them off.
From their earliest days, we are there for every important milestone. We watch them open their eyes, take their first uncertain steps, begin exploring the world around them and develop the individual personalities that make every Cocker Spaniel so special.
Those first weeks involve far more than simply caring for a litter. They are an important period of early development, socialisation and preparation for family life. By the time one of our puppies is ready to leave Greavesamor, we know their character, their confidence and many of the little habits that make them unique.
For us, that’s not where the relationship ends.
We believe that responsible Cocker Spaniel breeding includes caring about the lives our puppies go on to lead. Although they may no longer live with us, they will always remain an important part of the Greavesamor family.
This week, we had a particularly lovely example of why staying in touch with our puppy families means so much to us.
Bear joins the family
Bear recently left Greavesamor to begin life with Becky and Jonny.
Like every puppy moving into a new home, Bear has an exciting period of discovery ahead of him. He will be learning new routines, exploring new surroundings and building a relationship with the people and animals who will become his family.
What makes Bear’s story particularly special is that he isn’t their first Greavesamor Cocker Spaniel.
Their gorgeous boy Buzz has already been part of their family for several years, and during that time we’ve been lucky enough to stay in regular contact and watch him grow from one of our puppies into the much-loved dog he is today.
Through @showcockerbuzz, we’ve watched his walks, holidays and adventures and seen first-hand the wonderful life Becky and Jonny have given him.
Being able to follow the life of a puppy after they leave us is incredibly rewarding. We remember Buzz as a young puppy finding his feet, and now we get to see the confident and much-loved adult Cocker Spaniel he has become.
So when the time came for them to welcome another puppy into their family, knowing that Bear would be joining Buzz gave us an enormous amount of reassurance and happiness.
Introducing a new puppy to an existing dog is always an important stage for a family. It takes patience, supervision and time for both dogs to understand their new relationship. Having an older dog in the home can also provide a young puppy with companionship and help them become familiar with household routines.
We are looking forward to seeing Bear and Buzz’s relationship develop as Bear settles into his new home and discovers what life with a big brother is all about.
Choosing the right home matters
Finding homes for our puppies has never simply been about finding somebody who wants a Cocker Spaniel.
Every puppy is different, and so is every family.
Cocker Spaniels are known for being affectionate, intelligent and full of personality, but bringing any puppy home is a significant commitment. A puppy needs time, patience, training, companionship and a family prepared to meet their needs throughout every stage of their life.
We want to understand the sort of home and lifestyle a puppy will be joining and, wherever possible, make sure that the puppy and family are a good fit for one another.
This includes learning about a family’s daily routine, their experience with dogs, the environment the puppy will live in and what they hope life with their new Cocker Spaniel will look like.
Some families may be looking for an active companion to join them on long countryside walks and family adventures. Others may be searching for an affectionate family dog who will be equally happy playing, learning and relaxing at home. Understanding these expectations helps us make thoughtful decisions with the long-term wellbeing of every puppy in mind.

We spend the first weeks of their lives caring for them, watching their personalities develop and preparing them for life beyond Greavesamor. Naturally, we care enormously about what happens after they leave us too.
During those early weeks, puppies experience a period of rapid physical, emotional and social development. Positive early experiences help them begin building confidence and prepare them for the many new sights, sounds, people and situations they will encounter in their new homes.
That preparation provides an important foundation, but a puppy’s development continues long after collection day. Their new family then takes over the rewarding job of continuing their socialisation, establishing routines and helping them grow into a happy, confident adult Cocker Spaniel.
Seeing previous families return to us for another dog is therefore something we never take for granted.
It is a wonderful vote of confidence, but it also allows us to see the Greavesamor family grow. Knowing that somebody who has already shared their life with one of our dogs has chosen to return to us is incredibly meaningful.
A relationship that continues
One of our favourite things is receiving photographs and messages from our puppy families months and years later.
First walks become bigger adventures. Puppies become adult dogs. There are holidays, muddy walks, birthdays, funny stories and countless everyday moments along the way.
We love seeing their personalities continue to develop. The small characteristics we first noticed while they were with us often become some of the things their families love most about them.
Some become enthusiastic explorers who are happiest running through fields and investigating every interesting scent. Others discover a love for water, training, games or simply curling up beside their favourite person at the end of the day.
Every update offers another glimpse into the life they are building with their family.
It gives us the opportunity to see the dogs we’ve bred grow up, but it also means we’re still here should their families ever want to ask us something or simply share an update.
Bringing a puppy home is an exciting experience, but we understand that questions can arise as they settle in and grow. Every dog is an individual, and different stages of puppyhood can bring new experiences for both the puppy and their family.
Whether somebody wants to share a milestone, ask a question or tell us about their latest adventure, we are always happy to hear from them. Offering continued support to our puppy families is an important part of the way we approach breeding.
Some of those relationships have developed into genuine friendships over the years.
Our extended Greavesamor community includes families at many different stages of their journey. Some have recently welcomed a puppy home, while others have shared many years of walks, celebrations and everyday family life with their Cocker Spaniel.
Each family becomes part of the wider story of Greavesamor, and we feel incredibly fortunate to remain connected to so many of them.
The next adventure
Bear now starts his own story as Buzz’s little brother, and we’re looking forward to watching the two of them together.
The first few weeks in a new home are filled with important moments. There will be new routines to learn, new places to explore and a growing bond between Bear, Buzz, Becky and Jonny.
Having followed Buzz’s life over the years, we already know the love, care and adventures that are waiting for Bear.

We are sure there will be plenty of shared walks, games, naps and memorable moments ahead. There may also be a little brotherly mischief along the way.
That’s one of the loveliest parts of what we do.
Breeding Cocker Spaniels gives us the privilege of seeing each puppy’s story begin, but staying connected allows us to witness everything that comes afterwards. We get to see them become treasured companions and important members of their families.
The day a Greavesamor puppy leaves us isn’t really the end of their story with us.
It’s just the beginning of the next chapter.
